Lion Den (Kindergarten)
The Lion program is designed for kindergarten‑age children who are just beginning their Cub Scout journey. At Pack 3963, Lion focuses on simple, fun, family‑centered adventures that introduce Scouts to the values and excitement of Scouting in an age‑appropriate way.
Pack 3963 meets at Eden United Church of Christ, located at 5051 W Gunnison St, Chicago, IL 60630.
Lions participate in short, engaging activities with a strong emphasis on parent involvement. Most Lion adventures are done together as a den, with families playing an active role in meetings and outings.
What Lion Looks Like at Pack 3963
- Age: Kindergarten (typically 5–6 years old).
- Focus: Fun, simple activities that introduce Scouting.
- Family Involvement: A parent or guardian is expected to participate with their Lion.
- Meeting Style: Short, active meetings with games, crafts, and simple lessons.
- Pack Events: Lions are welcome at Pack meetings, special events, and age‑appropriate outings.
Lions are not expected to camp overnight right away, but they may participate in daytime outdoor activities and simple Pack events that help them feel part of the larger Scouting community.
Lion Adventures
The Lion rank is earned by completing a set of required adventures and optional electives. Adventures are designed to be fun, active, and family‑friendly.
Examples of Lion Adventures
- Introduction to Scouting: Learning the Cub Scout sign, motto, and simple rules.
- Family Activities: Doing a project or game together as a family.
- Community Awareness: Visiting a local place (park, library, or fire station).
- Outdoor Fun: Simple nature walks, outdoor games, or park meetups.

Lion is intentionally designed as a family‑centered program. At Pack 3963, we ask that a parent or guardian:
- Attend Lion meetings with their Scout.
- Help their Scout participate in activities and stay engaged.
- Support simple at‑home activities when needed.
- Communicate with the Lion den leader about schedules and needs.
This partnership helps Lions feel safe, supported, and excited about Scouting from the very beginning.
Joining the Lion Den
If your child is entering kindergarten and you live in Jefferson Park, Portage Park, or the Northwest Side of Chicago, they are eligible to join the Lion den at Pack 3963.
